About - Recruiter’s View
Sooner or later, everything in real life influences the jobs markets. So, our topics here range all over the place.
In our search to discover and share what’s really going on, we are particularly trying to answer the questions:
- Where will jobs be created (and why?)
- Where will jobs be destroyed (and why?)
This is my commentary on what I see and what I think it means.
People sometimes ask my opinion, because they assume a Recruiter’s activity can be a useful indicator.
And in fact, it’s true that I can pick up on changes in the business environment months ahead of the published numbers.
Understanding the implications of those changes is the trick. Daily conversations with business leaders give me the equivalent of perpetual survey results. And talking to candidates is the perfect reality check.
Ultimately, then, my evaluation is largely formed as an extension of what many, many others have been kind enough to share with me.
So, when you think I’ve got it wrong, I encourage you to tell me what you see from your side of the mountain.
We’re all trying to figure this out together.
Thanks for being a part of our effort!
-TDLandmark Events: Libyan Violence Escalates
Anti-government protests across North Africa and the Middle East saw the first major escalation of violence today. International forces are now involved. As Muammar Qaddafi rolled toward a crushing victory over Libyan rebels, the United Nations Security Council pondered, then passed a resolution authorizing the use of force to protect whatever Libyan civilians might still…
Landmark Events: Japan Earthquake, Tsunami, Nuclear Disaster
A magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck Japan on March 11, triggering a tsunami that pushed more than 12 miles inland, crippling four nuclear reactors in Fukushima. In Tokyo, Japan’s famous tremor resistant architecture survived repeated high magnitude aftershocks. It was the tsunami along the northern coast that was most devastating. Destruction from fast moving ocean waters…
Landmark Events: Wisconsin Limits Collective Bargaining
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed into law a bill restricting the collective bargaining rights of the state’s public employees. Other states, notably Ohio, are pursuing similar strategies. (Indiana is held up as a success story, having already turned its budget around, using similar principles.) Republicans claimed the law would save an estimated $30 million, up…
My Biggest Pitch Ever
That was strange. I just recommended 4,000 people for employment. This morning, I did just the bare minimum to keep a promise I made last week. I sent an e-mail to the media. Well, I sent it to one guy. It was kind of scary, actually. It took me three days to hit the send…
